Rainer Maria Rilke

"Extinguish my eyes, I’ll go on seeing you.
Seal my ears, I’ll go on hearing you.
And without feet I can make my way to you,
without a mouth I can swear your name.

Break off my arms, I’ll take hold of you
with my heart as with a hand.
Stop my heart, and my brain will start to beat.
And if you consume my brain with fire,

I’ll feel you burn in every drop of my blood."

35mm

I recently bought a Praktica MTL-5 from Portobello Market, in an attempt to start experimenting with film cameras for some variety as apposed to sticking with my SLR. Still very much a beginner, gradually learning. But am quite pleased with these which I took for my group project.

Anthony Madler

It's not very typical artistic inspiration, but I've always been rather fond of Anthony Madler's collaboration with Rihanna for her music videos. Disturbia was fun, Russian Roulette has those gorgeous shots of her underwater being shot in the neck from different directions. But now she's in a more light hearted video, and I'm obsessed with the location, colours and styling. Such gorgeous colours.

Shadow Catchers

Today, two new exhibitions opened at the V&A which I am desperate to see. It's called 'A History of Camera-less Photography'; which I was slightly confused about. Essentially, the display is a collection of images from as early as the1850s, which have been created without the use of photography. There's a display of images compiled by casting shadows onto light sensitive paper, some manipulated by chemicals to create figures, objects and glowing lights. It's art in a Scientific manner.

Backwoods Barbie

I'm a bit embarrassed that I had never come across Piers Atkinson before. He's now one of my main tutors on my BA, and today we met stylist Kim Howells who kept mentioning that she had worked with styling Piers and the hats he has created. So I obviously googled him, to see what he had done, expecting to find a blog possibly or a website of his hobby.
What I found was a profile as a designer for London Fashion Week, press from Japanese Vogue, and a photo of Kate Moss for Showstudio wearing one of his pieces. They're obscene,  obscure... it's so anti Ascot yet seems to have used the extravagance the event as a main inspiration. I don't usually like the typical Lady Gaga type headpieces (hair in the shape of a telephone, not really,) but these Barbie doll pieces.. je t'aime.
I think I'll wait a while before I give him any cheek.

Hermione de Paula

Hermione de Paula is another MA Central Saint Martins (sigh) graduate who, before launching her own label, interned for Alexander McQueen, Galliano, Christian Dior couture etc. I am usually very skeptical about CSM graduates who go into placements with designers like McQueen, because I find them limitied, elitist and predictable. However I have these thoughts because I am jealous obviously.

Yet I actually like Hermione de Paula. She doesn't look like a typical St Martins student (for starters, she's English.) Her penchent is for prints; her garments possess hand painted designs, delicate embroidery and her attention to structures and detail is stunning. I genuinely believe her talent.

This are pictures from her collection 'Polly Crystalline'.

BA(Hons) Fashion Illustration

Today I started my first day of university, a day I have been looking forward to since I decided that although my art foundation was a pretty appalling effort, I finally knew what I wanted to do and was happy with my degree.

Today there was a tube strike.
So today, I didn't start my first day of university.

But today, I did start my new blog. I'm going to try and keep this throughout my degree. So we'll see.
